Kuching Sabbath

August 29, 2015

This morning we slept in a little, had breakfast, and then went to the Sunny Hill SDA church. It was so cool getting to see where Dr. Perumal grew up going to school and church. Three people from our group gave small testimonies, our group sang a couple songs, and then after the service we proceeded to potluck. Before eating, we got to mingle with the locals at the church and got to ask questions about Kuching and the life there. We also met some really cute kids that were extremely interested in American culture and music. Lunch was delicious, we were able to try durian flower, gluten, different kinds of ferns, thai noodles, and much more. The food was delicious, and the elder women kept serving us more until we physically could not fit more food into our bodies, it was great.

After lunch we were given about 5 hours of free time to do anything we wanted. Naturally, after having a large Sabbath meal we decided to take the usual post-potluck Sabbath nap. After the nap we went down and relaxed by the pool for a bit, it was nice to have a day of rest.

For dinner we ate at Dr. Perumal's brother's house where they were having a birthday party for his sister-in-law. There were a lot of Dr. Perumal's family members there and it was awesome to meet all of them. They were all very kind and welcoming and wanting to talk to us about our trip. For dinner we ate on banana leaves and had amazing indian food. I was also able to try Dr. Perumal's favorite dessert, which I cannot remember the name of but it was really tasty.

Today made me love Kuching even more and I can't wait to explore the city tomorrow and learn about all the culture and history of the place.
